Nantong, known as a 'Pearl of the River and Sea' is a city with a history since the Chinese Han Dynasty. It has been found that primitive clan inhabitants lived in this region 5,000 years ago.

The city is situated on the northern bank of the Yangtze River of Jiangsu province, standing next to the Pacific Ocean and facing Shanghai across the river. As one of China’s first fourteen coastal cities permitted to open to international trade and economy, Nantong has a national reputation of 'the First Window on the Yangtze River' and is one of the national tourist centers.
Nantong, with a population of 7.7 millions and a total area of 8,001 km2, has a warm and wet subtropical climate under the influence of East Asia monsoon. Seasons are distinct and its residents enjoy sufficient sunlight and abundant rainfall. The average temperature is approximately 15°C with annual precipitation of 1,000 to 1,600 mm.
Nantong is a traditional industrial city of China back in early time of its history from salt to cotton textile productions. A local prominent statesman, entrepreneur and philanthropist, Mr Zhang Jian (Chang Chien Gucci handbags), founded Nantong’s first modern cotton mill in 1899. He finally developed the mill into a business empire that comprised a huge industrial complex including flour, oil, silk reeling mills, distillery, a machine shop and schools. The early industrial development helps the city in its later industrial modernization.
Today Nantong is one of the fast-growing coastal cities in China. With the opening of Sutong Yangtze Bridge (Suzhou - Nantong)and the bridge between Shanghai and Nantong between 2007-2008, the city will greatly increase its capacity to communicate with the Southern Jiangsu area.
The city, with its excellent investment atmosphere, welcomes visitors and investors around the world.
